Using Technology: Ch 2, Productivity Tools and Application Software
Chapter 2 presents technology tools and their usefulness in the world as well as education. The text previews word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and concept-mapping tools. Word processing is described as expanding learning and student efficiency when using tools such as spell check, thesaurus, grammar check, and revise and edit capability. Spreadsheets are useful in getting students involved in hands on education in many disciplines. Teachers can use spreadsheets to organize students records. Database software can also aid teachers in organizing and manipulating student data files. This software helps with time management and increases efficiency in collecting, storing, and accessing documents for classroom use or research. The last tool discussed is the concept-mapping which actively involves visual thinking and learning. This tool requires brainstorming, creating, planning, organizing, and processing how concepts relate to each other.
